Preview: Medal Of Honor Heroes
Thanks to IGN, we finally now have a preview on one of the most anticipated games for the PSP, Medal of Honor Heroes. They were fortunate enough to sit through a demo of Medal of Honor Heroes down at the EA offices and shares with us their experience. As we’ve already mentioned in an earlier article, you’ll get to play as three heroes in the game: Lt. Jimmy Patterson, Sgt. John Baker and Lt. William Holt.
The game allows you to play as a first-person shooter, and what’s great is that the heroes take a short time to load. The controls are entirely customizable, which is exactly the way shooters should be anyway. Like the previous games in the Medal of Honor series, Heroes has various modes which include campaign and multiplayer, but now this one also has the exclusive PSP skirmish mode. What does this do? It allows you to go out into a battlefield with no other goal in mind but to wreck everything you see. There are a bunch of customization options: maps, bots to play with, and caps (there are 16 of ’em), to name a few.
Environment and Gameplay: Each hero has his own campaign composed of five missions which are set in different parts of Europe. The stage environments are reportedly stunning, and makes it easy for you to spot enemies during firefights. The structures and vehicles also have sharp textures, even the mailboxes and random stuff on the street are visually top notch. As for gameplay, there are a lot of context-sensitive actions that you can perform, including crouch, sprint, fire under cover, pick up weapons and cantinas, etc. Cantinas, same as before, it gives you health boosts during emergencies although you can automatically regenerate health should you get shot.
The full preview awaits after the jump!

Controls: The D-pad handles most of the actions such as using items, switching weapons, and “quick select” actions (double tap one of the directions to select grenades). The thumbstick handles movement and the face buttons let you look up, down, left and right. The game also allows you to put it on hold to adjust the auto-aim and strafe-assist options and to see your primary and secondary objectives.
Sounds: IGN was all praises for the game’s sounds because according to them, everything sounds right. The things that you hit actually make the right sounds, whether it be the side of a tank or a brick wall. The blast of explosions are also realistic, as well as the whizzing of bullets.
The Multiplayer: The game marks one of the firsts ever in PSP…online playing with 32 other players in a single match. MOH also supports “continuous joining” which allows you to go in and out of games while they’re in progress. And like most online games, you can also set filters to select the game types and preferences. There are six match types which includes Hold the Line and Infiltration. Hold the line allows you to see your team defending your territory while Infiltration shows you navigating your way through the enemy’s compounds. The Demolition mode allows you to destroy enemy targets by placing explosives.
An even cooler feature: EA will distribute software through its website so players can run their own dedicated servers. These servers will show up in the Heroes lobby alongside official servers, and will have different icons so as not to confuse the players. The game seems to be one of the best shooters ever to come out for a portable console, and from the looks of it, it’ll be a huge hit all over the globe.
