Previewing the Heavy Weapon demo in the Digital Life
PopCap Games‘ will bring their Contra-inspired hostile-fire frantic side-scroller Heavy Weapon to XBLA sometime this month or the next (at least based on what we said last time). But if you want to catch it in action now, we could always turn to godfree’s and Gamertag Radio’s rather wide coverage of XBLA titles being demoed during the NY DigitalLife conference.
Just like Contra (yet another XBLA-destined title), Heavy Weapon can be played cooperatively between two people, as it is in the demo here. But it also has a single-player mission mode, and a mode with up to four tanks as well, according to the in-game commentary – we’ll assume that’s four players.
Expect to see six to eight different levels to play in, as well as the prerequisite miniboss fights in between. Like any decent arcade title, as this is, Heavy Weapons will also feature powerups to pick up and boost your tank’s defense and offensive power – did they just say “nuke” in the commentary? That’s some boost.
As we mentioned in previous coverage, Heavy Weapon is a high-def port of PopCap’s downloadable PC sh’mup. Everything that’s XBLA will be brought to the game, including Leaderboards, Achievements, Gamerscore, and the “kick of the balls” rumble.
