Primetime won’t make it with New Xbox Experience launch

Microsoft has announced that Xbox Live Primetime will not make it with the launch of the New Xbox Experience. Can’t say I’m disappointed though, since they only had one game lined up for it. And 1 vs 100 isn’t exactly what I’d call hype material.

According to what Microsoft told Forbes, Primetime’s delay was necessary “in order to ensure a smooth launch of the system’s new interface,” aka the New Xbox Experience. The service looks like its headed for a Spring 2009 release.

If you were too busy thinking up of your avatar that you missed its announcement, Xbox Live Primetime is a new service that is the video game equivalent of a virtual game show. At predetermined times, games will be hosted that will allow Xbox Live players to play against each other for prizes.

It’s an obvious attempt to steal casual gamers away from the competition. Still, it’s a promising concept that puts a new spin on multiplayer gaming. As long as they don’t fill it with games like Wheel of Fortune. If the delay means better games for it, then hurrah. Hmm.. I wouldn’t mind a round of Jeopardy on Xbox Live.
