Probst: Sony breaks PS3 shipment promise

EAThey did by half, according to the Electronic Arts CEO.

EA representatives were not at all doubtful about their predictions that Sony would not be able to meet its promised Launch Day numbers, but they were still surprised when they found out just how many units reached US shores. “Where they ended up was a bit of a surprise.” Only around 200,000 units reached US. Needless to say, they were disappointed.

But if we take into consideration what Sony’s bigshots think about the PS3 sales, they don’t see this as a big failure at all.

Sony was quick to announce that it’s expecting four to five more PS3 shipments before year’s end. Probst thinks that between 500,000 to 800,000 PS3 units will reach the US.

Even through this apparent mistake from Sony regarding the PS3, Probst stated that it must’ve still been a feat for Sony and other companies since console sales during “the first holiday weekend met or slightly exceeded expectations”. Maybe the holidays can do Sony good too, with its next shipment of PS3 units and all.
