Project Fantasy360 targets X360’s ribcage
Today’s market is quite littered by curve-for-curve copies of the original Xbox 360 case. They might be colored and flashy but still, just a copy and nothing more. Before, we reported on Xtreme Enterprise coming up with Fantasy-360 console. After four months of tinkering and research, XE’s project is now slowly gaining form.
According to them, we could actually do away with the plastic case. It is just there for aesthetic purposes. The RF cage inside though can be likened to our own ribcage – a formidable group of bones holding and protecting that which matters the most. For the X360, that would mean the motherboard, ON/OFF PCB and dual fans. Aside from this, the RF cage also prevents signal disturbance allowing continuous gameplay.
At this point, Project Fantasy-360 is targeting this very RF cage. They reported that no real problems were encountered when they removed the top cover. The lower cage on the other hand, proved to be a bit cumbersome. Attempting to remove it will result to the following:
- The dual fans will lose its major support via the cage and cannot stand on its own.
- The motherboard will be unable to secure itself to any anchor points.
- If the motherboard cannot be secured, it leaves the DVD drive dangling at the seams too.
- There are no alternative anchor points for the motherboard anywhere on the case.
- The power button PCB will lose its anchor point on the cage.
There are still no mention whatsoever regarding their modification plans. They promised, however, that they are putting high premium on the potentials of the Xbox360 and the options that are available to the user. For now, the best we can do is wait, and wait some more…
