PS3 casing susceptible to scratches

oh noes! Shinies are gone!

Break out the varnish, people. Or the plastiwrap. Or the plastic hard-shell casings. Or just learn how to play while your PS3 is still in its box or nestled in between custom-fitted pieces of styrofoam. The folks from Gizmodo have had the sad experience of finding out that the PS3 also has its soft side – which just so happens to be its outer shell.

According to Gizmodo, the console prima donna has proved to be frailer than it seems, as attempting to wipe dust off of its shiny surface with your hand results in some nasty scratches. Elapsed time since it was taken from the box? Around ten seconds. Some people believe that Sony may have scrimped on the casing to keep the whole thing under the US$ 700 mark, while others wonder if this baby will have to be waxed, buffed, and shined just like their cars. In the meantime, let’s just hope that its innards fare better than its exoskeleton.

So as a heads up for those who are planning to pick up the console, you might want to pick up some scratch remover from the hardware store on your way home, too.
