PS3 DOA – rotten luck, the thing won’t work

Death on a Pale Horse - by Gustav DoreDo you know anybody who bought a launch console that didn’t work? That just sucks. Some owners of launch Xbox 360s experienced this. Now it’s clear the launch PS3s aren’t perfect either.

As the story over at Gamer Andy shows, Bobby Blackwolf (of All Games fame) got a PS3 that was dead on arrival. It had no video output.

Some of you Xbox and Wii fans might think this is the perfect time for schadenfreude (happiness at the misfortune of others). But remember that early Xbox 360 units had hardware problems. And we still have to wait and see what problems will pop up with the Wii launch units (remember how people went nuts at the so-called “crashes” at the NYC event?).

No console is ever launched perfect.

Bobby Blackwolf’s launch PS2 was also DOA (the drive wouldn’t spin). The replacement wouldn’t read.

The good news is when the console maker shows a gamer-friendly attitude: Sony is taking steps to address any issues. “They promised a 3 to 5 business day turnaround. Not bad at all, and nice to see that Sony was assuredly on the ball with this one.”
