PS3 Download Content details: Finally

PS3Just one word: finally. That’s all we have to say about the much anticipated PS3 online feature. The downloadable contents would become available at the new PlayStation Store on November 11, the day the console launches in Japan. Maybe you are wondering what exactly does content mean. Well, as of now, three kinds of them are revealed: downloadable PS3 games, PS3 demos and most excitingly, original generation PlayStation games.

Let us start with the original generation games. To become available in late November, these games will be playable initially on the PSP. Without mentioning prices, Sony announced they are planning to add 10 titles per month. Also, PS3 and PSP items are available for download and will be put in stock at the PlayStation store.

The current list of titles which actually includes big names goes: Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol.1, Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol.2, Bishi Bashi Special, Arc the Lad, Jumping Flash, Minna no Golf 2, Silent Bomber, Tekken 2 and Mister Driller.

The downloadable games on the other hand are being planned for release before 2006 ends. The list and some known details are:

  • Kazuo – a number puzzle game which includes the 1000 problems of the PSP version but adds flashy PS3 visuals
  • Puzzle – developed puzzle game with three puzzles based around exploding blocks
  • Mainichi Issho – a communication game featuring the company’s Toro mascot cat character
  • Blast Factor
  • flOw
  • Lemmings

Finally, the downloadable demos will be available on November 11. Up until now, Sony has only confirmed one title and that is Ridge Racer 7. Users will also be able to send text messages with attachments to the people in their friend list through PlayStation Network section of the Cross Media Bar. AV Chat option enables gamers to talk with each other with audio and video feature. For now, Sony refused to divulge its video and music download plans.
