PS3 firmware 1.80 coming May 24 with Remote Play, PSOne/PS2/DVD upscaling
SCEE has sent ’round some news regarding the release of firmware 1.80 for their next gen PS3 video game console. Two of the notable new features in this firmware update are PSOne/PS2/DVD upscaling and Remote Play for the PSP handheld system.
Version 1.80 can now upscale PlayStation and PS2 games as well as DVD movies up to full 1080p HD resolution when viewed on a compatible HD TV set. This upscaling capability is normally associated with top range DVD players, and now PS3 owners can enjoy their games and movies in 1080p HD.
The newest firmware also allows users to enjoy Remote Play on their PSP across the internet. Please note that this requires a PSP that has firmware 3.50, which will be available at the end of this month. Version 1.80 also allows users on a home network to view and play media content stored on DLNA3-enabled devices (PCs, laptops) on their PS3.
Other enhancements include the ability to print photo images stored on the PS3’s hard drive or on inserted storage media on a variety of Epson printers. PS3 owners can start upgrading to firmware version 1.80 on May 24.
