The Sony PlayStation 3 2.10 Firmware update has caused quite a stir lately with the stuff that it’s bringing to the table. Reactions have been varied to say the least, with the homebrew development community taking a hit.
A group of independent developers over at PS2Dev is claiming that the Sony PS3 Firmware 2.10 update blocks the RSX access hack done via Linux. No further information was given, though several implications are easy to predict if it’s true.
Mainly, homebrew development for the platform using 3D animations will be halted in updated systems. This is because the Linux hack granted access to the Sony PS3’s GPU for tinkering. With that access point disabled, projects will have to be put on hold if there are any existing at the moment.
