PS3 for under $20? Yes way, jose!

PS3

Missed out on the PS3 launch because you didn’t have the dough? Don’t worry, you still have a chance to get your mitts on a PS3. In fact, you might even end up getting one for under US$20.

That’s right, if you’ve got at least 20 bucks you’ve still got a chance to get a Sony PS3 thanks to UniqueAuction.com, an online auction that just sold its first PS3 last Friday for a whopping price of $6.06. Maybe some of you are thinking, “Naw, this can’t be true.” Yeah, it might sound a bit of a stretch (a $600 console getting sold for 6 bucks and change?), but this is the real deal. Last Christmas, they sold over 100 Xbox 360’s with the winning bids ranging from $0.92 to $4.34.

So just how does the whole thing work anyway? Unlike a traditional auction, UniqueAuction.com plays up the “unique” part in its name. Instead of the usual highest bidder, it’s the most “unique” bid that wins. People can bid any amount on the offered items as long as it doesn’t go over the maximum price – for the PS3 it’s $15.05. For example, imagine that three people bid $15.05, two people bid $15.04, and one solitary individual bid $15.03. The most unique bid here would be the one for $15.03, hence the guy who made that bid wins the bidding war.

If you wanna know more check out UniqueAuction.com. Every bid costs US$2.00 ($1.00 for platinum members) in order to cover the cost of the system, but hey, what’s two bucks more if you end up winning the whole thing for what practically amounts to spare change anyway, right?
