PS3 Gyro Controller Headed to PC and PS2
The recently introduced motion sensing controller that will be used with the PS3 will have an early debut in PC’s and also the Playstation 2. The new controller will allow players to gain better and more precise control over games and also it is reported to ease fatigue and lessen the chance of players getting hand cramps while playing. This controller does not look radically different from current generation Playstation controllers.
Unlike Nintendo’s upcoming controller it still has the same button layout with analog sticks, D-pad, shoulder buttons and start, select buttons laid out in a similar fashion. Where this controller does differ from the norm is on the inside. A gyroscope housed within the unit, combined with sensors and software, creates the ability to add another dimension to gameplay. The new technology makes in game movement smoother, easier to control and also provides feedback to the user.
In games like flying simulators players will be able to use the controller’s ability to sense movement in three dimensions to turn the unit into the equivalent of a planes stick or control yoke, instead of simply using the D-pad, analogue stick and buttons alone to control the movements of the aircraft. This new ability could change the way we control racing games and many other genres as well.
Players will also be given the option of changing and saving settings that affect the controller’s sensitivity and other parameters to provide a more customized experience, adding another interesting enticement. With Nintendo’s planned release of a completely different control system the pressure has been on Sony to release something in response. Because many PC gamers are content with the long time standard keyboard and mouse control setup, only time will tell if the upcoming controller will provide enough unique incentives to make it a viable option.
