PS3 launch in Australia – are you ready, mate?
The PS3’s release in Europe has been announced, and now it’s the land down under, Australia. The PS3 midnight launch event will also be on March 23 – we can imagine Aussies gathering the camping equipment now – at Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall.
Sony Computer Entertainment Australia (SCEA) is intent on making the event something more than mind-numbing waiting. Instead of just waiting around the gamers will be kept entertained with a free public screening of Casino Royale (David Craig as James Bond). SCEA teamed up with retailer Myer for the said event. A viewing space outside the store will be set up, where the Bond movie will be played from a PS3. Screening starts 9:30 P.M. on March 22.
Lizzy Lovette from 2Day FM will also provide some entertainment as host of the launch. Plus PS3 paraphernalia will be given away, along with free massages and a chance to show off your gaming prowess by playing PS3 on the big screen. More freebies come the Aussies’ way as Myers will give away a free copy of Talladega Nights to the first 100 PS3 buyers while SCEA will give away a free copy of Casino Royale to the first 20,000 to register on the PlayStation Network.
Only 60GB PS3s will be available in Australia and will retail at AU $999.95 (about US $795).
