PS3 may get a price cut this summer, says Pachter
Here’s yet another prediction from Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. Last time, it was about the Wii outselling the PS3 by a huge margin – now it’s about Sony considering a price cut for their arguably expensive PS3.
The prediction itself is based on the recent drop of the PS3’s production costs, with the ultraviolet diodes going cheap. Even with the drop, however, there’s still a wide chasm between the actual selling price and the production price, so we’re not sure how it all figures out.
Michael Pachter also reiterated that the PS2 will still be alive and kicking even in the midst of all the powerful, next-gen consoles – it might even be the most popular this season, with the influx of movie tie-in games proving a hit with the videogaming masses. He puts it like so:
“Over the next four months, we expect the PS2 versions of Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third, Ratatouille, Transformers and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to sell more units than on any other platforms.”
What do you guys think? It’d REALLY be awful nice of Sony to give their shiny black console a price cut, but it’s also good that they’re not abandoning the PlayStation 2.
