PS3: One of Time’s big busts for 2006
If there’s one thing you can credit Lev Grossman for, it’s consistency. Along with Belinda Luscombe, he put up Time’s “5 Things that went from Buzz to Bust” list: noteworthy bits of news whose main problem was the inability to connect the hype to the reality of the situation. Once again, it’s another chance for the writer to call Sony‘s latest PlayStation a bust.
Along with the Samuel L. Jackson’s “Snakes on a Plane” failure and O.J. Simpson’s fictional account of how he would have killed his wife in “If I Did It”, the PS3 is also up there, with most of the same ideas he wrote about a month ago: high price, few units, and some not-so-good launch games.
He’s also consistent with the genitalia references, which is somewhat disturbing. The final statement in the PS3 portion? “You know you’re in trouble when you get beat by something called a Wii.”
