PS3 Scalpers: The other victim (?)
We’ll be remembering the PS3 launch as some of the wilder days of our lives. And in those wilder moments, we’ll remember the scalpers. They’re the guys who camped out for a PS3, only to sell it on eBay for prices that would make even the saintliest among us swear like Marines.
But even as we’re staring at the 1k+ units (that’s the price, not the numbers) on eBay, ever wonder how these guys must feel? Sad to say, as much as we’d love to own our own a PS3, the overpricing ends up pushing us in the Wii’s direction.
And it’s not just the customers – in a strange twist of fate, it seems even scalpers are falling into the problems of trying get rid of their unit. You know it’s bad when they’re trying to trade in a PS3 for a Wii.
Desperation? Probably. But given the initial US$ 600 price tag on the PS3 and the Wii’s 250, even scalpers are noticing the financial squeeze their purchase got them. On one hand, it’s probably Hubris for their own overpricing. On the other, could this be an indication of the current price projection for the unit? We like PlayStations – but maybe we better wait until the PS3’s are more affordable?
