PS3 steak sauce – can’t people just leave Sony alone?

According to the Kotaku translation of this story, Sangatsu Usagi, an Akihabara retailer, is selling unofficial PlayStation 3 steak sauce. The steak sauce is actually Bulldog brand sauce with sticker labels put over the bottles.

While this yummy sauce is evil (it makes fun of Sony‘s SIXAXIS Emmy and the one million shipment promise), we saw this and smiled. Think about it: nobody makes “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” steak sauce because very few people care about that crappy 1964 movie. But everybody knows about the PS3 (we bet there’s one on Air Force One, hehe).

People love to criticize Sony (often without putting in careful thought before making their negative statements) because Sony is an easy target – it’s hard for a potshot to miss if you’re aiming at something as big, successful, and high-profile as Sony.

For example, we don’t understand why people still make fun of Sony for accepting the Dual-Shock Emmy when it was the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS, the guys who awarded Sony the Emmy) who gave Sony the go signal to tell the world about winning the Emmy. In other words, NATAS deserves the steak sauce as much as Sony does.

Anyway, back to the sauce. The packaging itself is clever. The sauce comes in a big 60GB version (it sells for 599 yen or nearly 5 US dollars) and a smaller 20GB version (399 yen or about 2 bucks and some change). Ken Kutaragi is there where the bulldog is supposed to be on Bulldog brand labels.

So how about you get your hands on an A1 bottle and make your own steak sauce. One that celebrates the European launch, the growing developer support, and the worth-every-penny platform that this the PS3?
