PS3 To Have 150 Pound Pre-Order Deposit in UK?
If any of you guys are in the UK and are planning to pre-order a PS3, then you had better start saving up. Sony is apparently looking into putting a new allocation scheme into effect. If this pushes through, we’ll be looking at a deposit of £150 just for pre-ordering the PS3.
In an exclusive report published in the July 21st issue of British trade magazine MCV, it was revealed that Sony is currently discussing this radical new plan with senior retail buyers as it looks to manage a limited initial hardware supply this Christmas.
With the PS3 already being criticized for its rather hefty price tag, this news will no doubt add even more fuel to the fire of its detractors’ arguments against it.
It is also believed that Sony wants to use this deposit scheme to avoid the so-called ‘eBay phenomenon’ that occurred with the launch of the Xbox 360. This incident occurred when some consumers who were able to get more than one unit (some on deposits as low as £5) sold their extra machines for well above the retail price.
No news yet whether this scheme will be introduced in the US, so for you guys living stateside, stay tuned for more updates.
