Fancy yourself a budding game developer? Well Epic Games is giving you the opportunity to flex your coding muscles in the PlayStation 3 arena by allowing you to create your own mods for Unreal Tournament 3.
According to their latest blog post, you’ll first need the PC version of UT3 to make the PS3 mods. Essentially you get tools to convert these mods to PS3-friendly formats and transfer it via removable media. The tech is currently available only for the PS3 console.
Here’s how Tanya Jessen, Associate Producer of Epic Games, explains the process:
When you get more advanced, you could use the scripting language UnrealScript, Kismet (a visual based scripting system, so no coding knowledge required); or even your own 3D models to make something completely unique.
When you’ve finished, just use UnrealFrontEnd (or ‘UFE’ – it’s included with the PS3 mod tools), a program that will automatically format your project into PS3-optimal packages.
Just name your mod something cool, select your removable media, plug it into your PS3, import the mod, and youÂ’re ready to play. By the magic of the programming team, any new maps or mutators will be automatically recognized in the menus.
