PlayStation Portable - Image 1Heads up, people. There’s a new system update coming for the Sony PlayStation Portable. Don’t hit that Network Update icon just yet, though (and if you’re a homebrew user, why would you?). It’s not out yet. PSN Operations director Eric Lempell says it should be out “soon”, though. Heads up, people. There’s a new system update coming for the Sony PlayStation Portable. Don’t hit that Network Update icon just yet, though (and if you’re a homebrew user, why would you?). It’s not out yet. PSN Operations director Eric Lempell says it should be out “soon”, though.

So far, no changelog, but firmware 5.03 supposedly includes “a security patch for the PSP’s system software.” Could this be Sony’s answer to the GripShift exploit? Very possible. Stay tuned for more updates.

*Update* Word on the PlayStation forums is that the update is now live. As Lempell said, all 5.03 has is the following:

  • New for 5.03: A security patch was added to address security vulnerabilities in the system software.
