We’re pretty sure that last sentence got you, so here’s the lowdown on that. Sony Japan announced via press release that, come fall, the PSP will be able to access the PlayStation Store directly (and thus, download demos and other goodies), without the help of the PS3 or the PC.

Sony Japan will also commemorate the upgrading of the PSP with new game content, the first of which will be a portable version of the PS3’s Mainichi Issyo, aptly dubbed Mainichi Issyo Portable.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the PSP will also get the ability to take their multiplayer gaming online via the PS3. Select PSP titles will be able to connect to the PS3 and use the PS3 to set up matches for the PSP game. The first title announced that will get this connectivity is Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which happens to be big in Japan.

These upcoming features will be compatible with all the different versions of the PSP, though users will have to upgrade their PSP’s firmware to do so. Keep checking QJ for more updates on these developments as they happen.
