Zx-81 from our forums has once again taken the liberty to update one of his earlier emulators today –  bringing PSPBEEB to version 1.0.6. Some of you may not have heard of this emulator, as the last version was released all the way back in May. This is one of Zx-81’s unusual emulators, as most of the homebrew community would not recognise the vintage BBC Micro Computers that were first released all the way back in 1991.

The BBC Micro, more commonly known as the Beeb, was an early home computer designed and built by Acorn Computers Ltd for th (BBC). The Beeb was used for educational uses  in schools as well as being quite popular in homes back in a time when nobody had heard of the common PC.

PSPBEEB is Zx-81’s port of BeebEm, a famous BBC Micro computer emulator for Unix and Windows. Here’s what’s changed since v1.0.5:

  • Icons and background images designed by Mr Nick666
  • Emulator menus reorganisation (new menu for settings)
  • New feature to save and load a distinct setting file for each games
  • Delete files option (in the file selector)
  • Added keyboard change skin option
  • The percentage of battery left is now displayed in the emulator window
  • Added a watchdog to automatically return to the emulator menu when the battery is very low (< 5%)
  • You can add your own virtual keyboard images in the graphics directory
  • Numerous bug fixes and code cleaning
