Q&A With Heavenly Sword’s Mat Hart

Despite all the bad publicity that Sony has been getting – what with the PS3’s delay and shipment reductions – Sony remains steadfast about their next-gen console’s success, saying that the next-gen race is a marathon, not a sprint. And that their console is different from that of their competitor, the games that will be offered for the PS3, especially those that will be exclusive to the console, will further support and boost the console’s sales.

One of those games that Sony is hoping will bring their next-gen console to the top of the charts is the PS3-exclusive Heavenly Sword, a stylish action game that is said to be the one that comes closest to Resistance: Fall of Man. DailyGame had a chance to interview producer Mat Hart about Ninja Theory‘s launch game title.

In the interview, Mat Hart talks about the experience of developing a game for the PS3 (and the PS3 alone, as the game will be exclusive to Sony’s next-gen console), the camera angles, as well as the weapons, missions, and levels in the game. Hart also discusses the combo system and how important the combat system was in the way they proceeded with the game’s development.

The interview also tackles the different chapters, as well as the environments, featured in the game. Mat Hart also revealed that the fighting sequences in the game were inspired by no less than Asian movies such as Hero and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. It would be really interesting to see how the said films’ combat choreography plays out in Heavenly Sword, don’t you think? As for the PS3’s motion-sensing controller, Mat Hart says that the motion-sensing feature of the control brings a massive amount of possibilities that they’re going to exploit.
