Racing in Ridge Racer 7, PS3-style

“Riiiiiidge Raaaceeeerrr!” Okay, so we couldn’t resist that running gag, just like the last time (someof us actually find it adorable, sort of). But you know what, with Namco Bandai‘s Ridge Racer 7, it looks like the gag – and a lot of other things – go flying out the window. At speeds of more than 300 kilometers per hour – that was a metric readout in the game, right?

Uh-huh. Today three gameplay video caps of Ridge Racer 7 from GameVideos and Gamers’ Day drift and screech their way to this website. All hitting speeds over 300kph (we’re assuming it’s metric on those speedometers). Watch those sleek cars take the turns, catch some big air, and race for daylight in actual gameplay footage.

When they say “Real Unreality” they definitely mean it. Sure, what car in real life can drift through a corner at more than 300kph (we really think it’s metric)? But perhaps that’s the fun of Ridge Racer. Like its Namco Bandai stablemate Ace Combat, it keeps the nod to reality (tuneable cars and all, even if they’re fictionalized), but merges it with arcade-feel gameplay, for edge-of-your-seat action and easily-accessible fun. Catch the speed and the unreality of it in the vids below:

Now, homework for other QJ writers: if we could only catch Reiko Nagase again in a vid…
