Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction to give premium on storyline over weapons

Ratchet Future - Image 1 When the name of the Ratchet & Clank franchise is mentioned, most of us would have to admit that big explosions and speaker-shuddering blasts are the first things to come to mind. The games throughout its run on the PlayStation 2 were notorious for the fun weapons that were presented to users, adding it all up to what we know the series for right now.

It’s logical to expect a lot more of that element in the next-generation chapter titled Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction for the PlayStation 3. After all, what the franchise has evolved into sells copies like mad. It may surprise a few of you, however, that the guys at Insomniac want to take the new game back to the basics.

“Over the course of the PlayStation 2 games, we went down a path that started to prize the weaponry over the storyline.” says Insomniac marketing director Ryan Schneider. “One of the key pillars of Ratchet & Clank is a mystery adventure. We want players to explore this universe and get wrapped up in the tale that we’re trying to tell.”

“It’s a good story too – while Ratchet is slowly discovering details about the origin of his race, Clank is discovering spirituality – though more than that I really can’t say at this point,” adds Schneider.

Does that mean we’ll see more of the humorous cut scenes that have been established as trademarks of the Ratchet series as well? We’ll see, but we really don’t mind more storytelling as long as the fun in the action isn’t diminished one bit.
