RE5 producer: Resident Evil 5 influenced by Bioshock
Capcom‘s Resident Evil 5 (PS3, Xbox 360) producer Masachika Kawata was asked what games most influenced his team during the creation of the survival horror title. “Bioshock,” he said. More from Masachika Kawata in the full article.
Resident Evil 5 (PS3, Xbox 360) seems to be coming together rather well. From the Co-op mode, to the improved AI, to the inventive use of next gen lighting (or lack thereof).
Capcom‘s RE5 producer Masachika Kawata touched on all these things in an interview with CVG. The game game is an “evolution” from Mikami’s RE4, he proudly said.
When asked what games most influenced his team during the creation of RE5, he pointed to none other than 2k Games’ Bioshock (PS3, Xbox 360, PC). “It’s a classic game which really utilized the next gen power very well. The world is very strong and very believable, and the whole game was quite inspiring.”
Kawata addressed the concerns about alleged racist undertones saying:
Following the tradition of the Resident Evil franchise, you’ll remember from Code Veronica – the Progenitor virus comes from Africa so we wanted to go back to the root of where the virus originated. For the people who think it’s racist… well, we can’t please everyone.
