“Real” 3D on the PSP – Solid Eye

Metal Gear Acid 2 should be hitting store shelves near you in a few days if they haven’t already. The original launch title Metal Gear Acid was a success because of it’s unique combination of stealth with turned base strategy along with an in-depth card collecting segment, and the second title hopes to follow in its footsteps. While the addition of more cards and intensified boss battles was expected, an interesting peripheral called the Solid Eye is the most notable improvement.

This device creates a 3-Dimensional effect by displaying images slightly different in each of the two lenses. Although it isn’t required to play the game, it is still included with the $40 purchase of the game. To be honest, it doesn’t look like a practical device at all. Not only does it seem to tower over the PSP, but I imagine that you might feel cross-eyed after looking through it for too long. Also, if you’re one of those people who really gets into the game you might even hit yourself in the face. Still, innovation is always nice to see, so kudos to Konami for trying something new.
