Red 5 Studios – Interview
Gamecloud recently had a chat with newly formed Red 5 Studios, a development house comprised of ex-Blizzard staff, and now working on a unique MMORPG being developed using the revolutionary Offset Engine (the Lead Programmer of which was also present). Very little gameplay related information was given as the article focused more on the licensing of the Offset engine and work being done on the back end to make it even more MMO friendly, but here are some of the particularly squishy bits:
Gamecloud – Mark, what details can you give us about Red 5 Studios’s upcoming first title?
Mark Kern – It’s still pretty early, but I will tell you that we won’t be making a traditional, fantasy-based MMO. We also won’t be using any licenses; it will be an all new, original world and setting. I think that’s important, because games are going to become a leading source for new intellectual property in the future.
Gamecloud – Mark and Sam, what will be shown of the Red 5 Studios MMORPG during the Game Developers Conference demo?
Mark Kern – We’ll be showing the Offset engine at the Career Pavilion, at the Red 5/Premier-Search recruiting booth. You’ll get to see Offset’s own game and engine demos running in real-time as well as some test cases that we put together to evaluate the engine.
Can’t wait to hear more about this project, GDC is set for March 22nd, so mark your calenders and be sure to check back for more information on this title.
