Re-Evaluating World of Warcraft China
No, no this article is not about Chinese farmers. Blizzard Entertainment, the makers of the ever so popular MMORPG World of Warcraft, announced “is currently actively exploring and discussing cooperation opportunities and further expansion of its business with local potential partners for mainland China” which means that they are looking for other alternative partners than the current WoW China distributor The9 since they have been criticized by a lot of Chinese WoW gamers for “widespread delays of over an hour when logging into the game”, and “complete server outages that disrupted the endgame of a large-scale raid involving nearly 1,000 players”.
However, The9 is still invited for negotiation bid for the distribution of the upcoming WoW expansion, The Burning Crusade and there is a possibility that if some other company gets the rights then it is likely that company will takeover WoW China since conflicts would definitely occur if two separate groups handle WoW. I never thought Blizzard cared about WoW in other countries, heh, well maybe because China swelled the World of Warcraft population to 6 million I guess it comes down to one thing…sales.
