Remember Angband? Playtesters needed for DS port
Angband. It’s the fabled tower of the Tolkien’s baddie Morgoth. It’s also the name of a bunch of text-based dungeon adventure games that were built for computer gamers in the 1990s. It has seen numerous versions and revisions, and been on many a computer screen, but someone’s attempting to port it to a different kind of system: your Nintendo DS.
Onigiri is trying to port Angband 2.8.3 to the DS, but he needs play testers to help him check for stability issues on different kinds of carts and DS units. He needs the help of gamers such as ourselves to test his game out and give him feedback. You will, of course, need a homebrew-capable DS, as well as a flash cart with at least 64KBs of SRAM. Having previous experience playing the game will also be a plus.
Onigiri has also implemented the following features for the existing version of the game:
- High score list saves to SRAM
- Save file saves to SRAM
- Subpixel rendering font by Sylfurd
- All commands remapped to DS button combinations. Buttons generally have similar functions. ie x button for inventory, x+RSH for drop item, x+LSH for take off item, LSH+RSH+x for destroy item.
- Implemented console style text and numeric entry.
- Implemented console style selection for menus.
Of course, that probably didn’t make a lot of sense unless you used to play the game. If you’re up to helping a fellow homebrewer, playing a new game ahead of everyone else, or having some gaming nostalgia on your DS, then you know what to do. Send Onigiri a message through the GBA Dev forums or track him down through the homebrew scene and send him your support. Good luck, gamers.
