Just last month, the NPD reported that handheld gaming is becoming increasingly popular with the younger generations. In the latest of their yearly study of gaming habits, however, data showed that it’s the consoles and PC gaming that’s moving up, while portable gaming hasn’t been as hot.
The NPD had 18,872 respondents for the study, ages 2 and up, the average being at 32. Those younger than 13 were accompanied by a parent or guardian as the survey was administered. According to the findings, there’s a 9% increase in console gaming compared to last year, while it’s 6% up for PC gaming. The portables, unfortunately, suffered a 16% decline.
“With these kinds of shifts in the composition of the gaming consumer and changes in gaming behavior, it’s clear that the need to understand gamers and their purchase patterns remains critical information to those that develop, market and sell games,” said Anita Frazier, industry analyst from the NPD Group.
