Report: gaming will boost 3D TV sales
The prospect replacing your perfectly fine HDTV with a 3D one just for gaming doesn’t sound like a very practical thing to do. But according to a survey by the Consumer Electronics Association, gaming will be a major factor in 3D TV sales.
The prospect replacing your perfectly fine HDTV with a 3D one just for gaming doesn’t sound like a very practical thing to do. But according to a survey by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), gaming will be a major factor in 3D TV sales.
In a presentation at the LA Games Conference earlier, the CEA noted that one in every four gamers are interested in 3D gaming. Among those who’ve seen a movie in 3D, half expressed interest that they’d like to play games in 3D. Gaming is seen as one of the crucial selling points of 3D TVs, and gaming systems are already being bundled with them.
CEA chief economist Shawn DuBravac also believes that the non-gaming demographic will likely be drawn into games with the arrival of new devices and technologies, the iPad for instance. According to the CEA, 8% of consumers still have doubts about 3D gaming, but about half of them indicated that they’re still open to the idea after they see it for themselves.
