Reports on “unflashable” PSP units surface yet again

Reports on We got word that there’s a reason why it seems like consumers are having a hard time getting a PlayStation Portable unit nowadays. Reportedly, the supplies were intentionally being pulled out by Sony. Why? They’re allegedly trying to equip the recalled PSPs with a stronger “anti-copy protection”.

It should be remembered that QJ.NET ran a similar report involving the PSP supplies of Netherlands. According to various sources including local distributors and a handful of our own readers, the supplies were indeed recalled. The distributors added that Sony will be providing them with new “unflashable” units. Sony, on the other hand, denied these reports.

The following is a statement from another distributor and was quoted from French gaming site PSP-Generation, “We prepare a new console with a system anti-copy on the mother chart and we will deliver the consoles as soon as available”.

The mentioned site also added that the same was uttered by other store owners. Take note that it was also made clear that this is not the much-rumored PSP 2. If these reports turn out to be true, the new units are just a revision of the existing ones.
