Resident Evil Gamecube Wiimake for Japan only

Resident Evil logo - Image 1 Japan is like the older brother that keeps getting the good stuff first before it passes on to the younger siblings. In this case the  younger siblings would be the US market and the rest of the gaming world. Take for example the Wii-make of GameCube‘s Resident Evil 1. Yes, it’s a “Japan only” title — “for now.”

Resident Evil Wii vs. GameCube - Image 1Unfortunately, those of you waiting to get their hands on Capcom‘s Wii remake of the GameCube‘s Resident Evil 1 will have to fly all the way across the globe to grab a copy of it. That’s because it’s been confirmed that the project is a Japan-exclusive release.

According to Christian Svensson, VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development, “At the moment, like Zero, this is Japan only. That could change but that’s the current situation.” Some aren’t really surprised that Capcom US isn’t picking up on it. They did pass up on Zero too, after all.

Svensson also disclosed over at their official forums that this whole project was actually borne out of the success of Zero in terms of sales. “In Japan, Zero sold well indicating that many people have played the title and there is demand for it. This project is a reaction to the sale of Zero.”

So while not all of you may think that you’re not missing much anyway if RE1 Wii doesn’t ship to the US, it’s still a pretty good opportunity for the new generation of gamers to get to know the game via the newer technology we have around, don’t you think?

Resident Evil 1 Wii comes out on December 25 this year.
