Rockstar Games: No Grand Theft Auto movie was ever in the works

If you got excited about yesterday’s rumor that there was a Grand Theft Auto  movie in the works, you will be disappointed to know that Rockstar Games has gone on record and denied speculations about the matter.

Aside from that, Rockstar also made clear that they are not interested in any project concerning GTA outside the video game industry. More on this after the jump!

Following yesterday’s rumor that there was a Grand Theft Auto movie in the works that would feature rapper Eminem, Rockstar Games went on record today that the rumor is not true and that the speculations are just exactly that.

According to Rockstar Games VP Dan Houser, no movie was ever in the works, as far as their company is concerned. He added:

Some movie producers were trying to put something together to entice us to make a movie, as studios and production teams frequently have done in the past.

This proposal was no more interesting than the numerous others we receive. We never entertained proceeding with the project.

Aside from that, Houser also made clear that a GTA movie is not something they are “currently interested in” and that they are not involve in whatever GTA project outside the video game industry “in any way, shape or form.”
