Rockstar San Diego staff faces layoffs

rdr-thumbThis is certainly odd. Considering the success of Red Dead Redemption, you’d think Rockstar San Diego would be able to afford to keep their employees. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case as news of layoffs break out.

Rockstar will not give the specific statistic for the casualties, but Kotaku’s “sources close to the developer” claim that around 40 employees have been axed from their posts. Rockstar, however, did give out an official statement regarding the matter.

 

 

 

 

Coursing it through studio manager Steve Martin, “As is typical with game development, our team sizes have always fluctuated over the course of the development cycle. As Rockstar San Diego transitions from the launch of Red Dead Redemption onto future projects, we are realigning our resources in order to continue to develop games as effectively as possible.”
