RUMOR ALERT! PS2 emulation on the PSP?
Pariah emailed us a rumor tip that certainly made us spill our Cokes on our desks today. (Alarm klaxons start ringing in the staff room. Danger, Will Robinson, Danger! Dangerous rumor curves ahead! Proceed with caution!). According to a post by PSP homebrew dev PS2 emulator for the PSP”>Demon Seed in the BioTHPS forums, he’s just made PS2 games playable on the PSP.
Yes. We were blinking our eyes, too. A couple of us swore. You know, we’re skeptical. Really skeptical. We’ve been passing notes all around the room, and we’re still not sure. The word so far is, if by the off chance this was true, we seriously doubt this will be playable.
The posts on the forum don’t give much to make any conclusions, mind you, but they at least give a taste of what they’re saying over there. Bunch of guys are thinking it’s WTF, fake, possible Photoshoppery (or LocationFree feed), and so forth. On the other hand, another bunch of guys vouch for Demon Seed’s rep as a homebrew dev.
Well, we can’t vouch for Demon Seed himself – did a search for “Demon Seed” on PSP Updates and no hits came up. This is what he promises his faithful followers (and faithful skeptics, too): “I Will Post It On Biothps.com first, it’s still in beta tho ill post it later today or tomorrow =þ”.
This we have to see. Between the possibility of Photoshop on the one hand, and LocationFree on the other… (nightmares of the LOL-WE GOT HITCHED! fiasco come back to haunt QJ staffers). Sorry to be skeptical about this, Pariah or Demon Seed, if by chance either of you are reading this. There’s enough reason to doubt this is even real – not the least of which is what are you going to do about the other analog stick and the missing shoulder buttons?
You know what? We’ll be on top of this. We’ll find out if this is true or not. Tips, watching BioTHPS, consulting some soothsayers – whatever. Demon Seed, if you’re reading this, we’re holding you to your promise of posting a copy of this program. There is, after all, only one way to prove anything in the PSP homebrew dev scene: proving it up front.
Up above and down below are screencaps of Demon Seed’s claim. Dunno what “Enthusia” is, but we recognize that taxi from San Andreas anywhere. Yeah that’s the PS2 startup, and that’s Tony Hawk. Until Demon Seed finally makes his emu available, this is going to be filed under Big Fat Rumor. We say again: BIG. FAT. RUMOR.
