RUMOR: Call of Duty 4 multiplayer and gameplay
With Call of Duty 3 now out about, the blazing guns of the rumor tank has produced another hot one, and this time the target is Call of Duty 4.
According to Neowin.net, a “reliable source close to the Call of Duty development teams” has revealed quite a few vital facts regarding the game, including the news that it will be based on modern combat. It’s still unknown if Call of Duty 4 will follow the steps of EA’s Battlefield franchise which put the spotlight on the Middle East.
Infinity Ward, the developer behind the first and second Call of Duty installments, is supposedly the one working on Call of Duty 4. According to the three-way deal established between Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Activision, Infinity Ward will develop all even numbered titles while Treyarch develops the odd numbered games. It is somewhat interesting to note, though, that Treyarch developed Call of Duty 2: Big Red One as well, however.
Regarding gameplay, the source said that Call of Duty 4 will have 16 critical point on in-game characters’ heads compared to the two or three that most shooters have. Supposedly, this means that you can shoot the side of an opponentÂ’s helmet to make it spin on their head, knock their helmet clean off, or even shoot an enemyÂ’s ear off.
As for the multiplayer feature, Neowin.net’s source has claimed that there have been multiplayer bouts with the number of players reaching an astounding 54 people. Also, and most important of all to the PC gamers out there, Call of Duty 4 will supposedly be brought to the PC as well as consoles.
