The recession may have hooked its pincers into another victim. A report from the Electronic Playground is claiming that Electronic Arts has canceled the Need for Speed series.

While we wait for official confirmation on this one, we’re still tagging it as a rumor. The Electronic Playground offered no proof to its claim, but it’s not what I’d call unbelievable.

Need for Speed: Undercover (PS3, Xbox 360, DS, Wii, PSP), the latest in the series, wasn’t even able to enter the top 20 in the NPD charts for November. Electronic Arts is also suffering some financial troubles, and there are talks that we may see some layoffs from the studio soon. We’ll keep you posted when (and if) confirmation comes in.
