Rumor: Hidden data in Halo 3 beta hints 4 player co-op over Xbox live
The 7th Columnist blog reports that their rummaging of the Halo 3 beta code has revealed that 4 player co-operative play will be included in the said video game. They claim that it should be available both online over Xbox Live and also locally via System link.
They say that they went through (extracted) the source data of the public beta files and saw the menu texts, prompts, and the whatnots. They thought they were just stumbling through stuff until they ran into this particular piece of text:
The game cannot start because all players are set to observer. Too many players for splitscreen. Only 2 players may play splitscreen coop on the same Xbox 360 console. The party size is too large to start the game. Up to 4 players may play coop on Xbox Live or System Link. Loading information from Xbox Live…
For now, all we’ve got to go with is their claim. So we’ll tag this as a rumor until we get more confirmation from other sources. Given that this is data from the Beta, this may not even make it to the final product. If this is true, then it would be sweet. Weren’t people asking this from Bungie for quite some time now?
Anyhow, as excited as other bloggers might be about data extracted from the Halo 3 beta, this blogger would rather wait from an announcement from Bungie. After all, they’ve been very generous when it comes to giving out weekly updates about their product. So stay tuned.
