Rumor: Killzone 2 budget doubled because of Guerrilla Games?
It’s been a while since we last heard about Killzone 2, and in this update we get to hear about Surfer Girl giving the upcoming FPS from Guerrilla Games the rumor treatment. We say rumor because, well, there’s really no way to see if they’re true or not – we’ll just have to wait for official word. In any case, check out the full article for the entire scoop.
Here’s a bit of disconcerting news from Surfer Girl herself: it seems that some mismanagement on Guerrilla Games‘ part has ballooned the development costs of Killzone 2 for the Sony PlayStation 3 to almost double its original price (that being, US$ 30 million just hiked up to US$ 60 million dollars). Allegedly, when it comes to financial and work allocation management, the guys over at Guerrilla Games could use a little refresher course, it may be implied.
The company is said to be getting quite the high turnover rate as well as a few other slip-ups. Ouch. Here’s the exact quote from Surfer Girl’s blog, verbatim:
Remember this story? That figure was actually €21 million (US$ 30 million) and it has only gone up from there (by gone up i mean it has doubled to € 42 million/US$ 60 million). By the time Killzone 2 comes out it will dethrone Shenmue as the most expensive video game ever made.
The game should have cost the former figure but Guerrilla’s managerial lacks any sort of financial or work allocation skills, the studio has high turnover and a few other things.
Because of this incapacity a nice portion of the team at Studio Cambridge is assisting in development. To top this off the game may be pretty but it’s barely mediocre and past the point of no return. The September release date floating around will without doubt be missed if Guerrilla sticks to their intention of not releasing the game until its done which will be early next year.
And not only that, but it seems that Insomniac Games feels just a tad miffed at Guerrilla Games and their upcoming hit, Killzone 2. They believe that Guerrilla is merely guzzling down the moolah and delivering very little to its worth, while Insomniac is busy keeping up their end, delivering high-quality content.
Definitely some pretty bad news, in terms of companies working with the same console getting along. Then again, since this is a Surfer Girl report, we’ll have to file this one under rumors.
