Rumor: Killzone 2 drops on February 17; Sony responds with ‘not confirmed’

Killzone 2 - Image 1Whoopsie, did some just slip up? The fancy thing about the journalism industry is that you’re sometimes let in on details that are embargoed. And just like QJ’s got its own dyslexic editor (i.e. yours truly), people tend to slip up from time to time too. Enter Ryan McDonald, executive producer for GameSpot. In the latest edition of On the Spot, they had a segment on the Killzone 2 beta, with McDonald dropping the release date matter-of-factly. Sony‘s done some damage control now though, following up with a “it’s not confirmed” statement.

Whoopsie, did some just slip up? The fancy thing about being in the journalism industry is that you’re sometimes let in on details but are embargoed (i.e. prohibited) from revealing until the time is ripe. And just like QJ’s got its own dyslexic editor (i.e. yours truly), people tend to slip up from time to time.

Enter Ryan McDonald, executive producer for GameSpot. In the latest edition of On the Spot, they had a run on the Killzone 2 beta. And right off the bat, he introduces the segment of the show with: “This is Killzone 2, coming out February 17th…”

Wait, whaaat? Check it out just past the 32:00-mark (specifically 32:10).

All this time, Killzone 2‘s only been confirmed with a February 2009 release window, with various online sources calling out different specific dates for the game in February. Some say Feb 1, some say Feb 20. McDonald seem to have stated it matter-of-factly though.

Meanwhile, CVG‘s gotten word from a Sony representative commenting on the February 17 release date dropped by McDonald, saying that it “still hasn’t been confirmed” and that they’re “still tracking a February release for the UK, though.”
