RUMOR, or potential SNEAK PEEK: Firmware 2.0: now with in-game XMB?!

Microsoft? THIS IS SONYYYYYY!!! - Image 1RUMOR ALERT: a recent post to the PlayStation forums claims to have received the notes to PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.0 – yes, from decimal to whole number – via the PlayStation press center. There are doubts in the forum as to its authenticity, though some have also vouched for the poster – a regular in the forums – as a reliable source of firmware notes “advanced info.”

If these notes turn out to be true, we will soon get multiple chat support, some changes to the backwards compatibility list, password protection for user accounts, and the one thing people have kept bugging Sony, us, teh intarwebs, and their mothers about for quite some time already…

In-game XMB access.

We still have to keep this as a Rumor, you know; everything pending confirmation. This is madness!

Madness? THIS IS (allegedly) FW 2.0!

The PLAYSTATION 3 system software version 2.00 update includes the following:

  • Users
    • You can now password-protect user accounts.

Jeepers, Jay, good eye for spotting this in the PlayStation forums! We’re in for one hell of a night at the full article.
