Yeah, we all booed when Sony decided to take out PS2 backwards compatibility in the later models of the PlayStation 3, but what’s this? According to a product description from VideoGameCentral, Sony has a PS2 emulator for the PS3 available online. Buh? According to the production description:
The new 80-Gig PS3 System features the ability to play PS3 Games, Blu-rays & DVD movies (PS2 Games can be played when downloading SonyÂ’s PS2 emulator software online).
This feels more like a case of miscommunication rather than an accidental slip-up though. Still, with hype for Firmware update 2.5 building up, this kind of thing can’t be let past that easily. Will Sony actually be offering a PlayStation 2 emulator for the PS3? Have they heard the cry of thousands of PS3 owners?
Put it on your wish list. For now though, let’s chalk it up as rumor.
