We’ve already heard that the presscon will supposedly announce the PS3 Slim and the PSP Go price cut, but it did leave us hanging with one more “mystery announcement.”

This right here be the “mystery”. Sources of PSInsider describes that this last item is being done only “for the first time”. That would be the announcement on Firmware 3.0, though not necessarily releasing it on the same day. The announcement will supposedly coincide with the release of the new PlayStation Network – something that Sony has hinted previously to come sometime around the 18th.

As to what could be featured in the new PSN, we have yet to find out, although we’re betting on some premium features, like access to unlimited downloads at a flat rate, maybe.

Before you go whopping with joy, however, keep in mind, THIS IS JUST A RUMOR. GamesCom will be happening from August 19 to 23, 2009 in Germany.
