RUMOR: Wii overtakes PS3 in UK
There’s some leaked, and therefore totally unconfirmed, news regarding how the Sony PlayStation 3 did during its third week on sale in the UK. It’s not bad but definitely not what Sony and its fans would have hoped for. The Blu-ray carrier sold 17,000 units behind the Nintendo Wii’s 25,000.
Exclusive games Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm have dropped from the top spot as far as software is concerned. Sega‘s launch titles for the PS3 led by Sonic the Hedgehog are still doing well.
According to gaming blog SPOnG, these figures were leaked from Chart Track, an organization committed to monitoring hardware sales in the country. SPOnG tried to contact Chart Track for verification or denial but comments were refused to prevent further leakage of information.
Microsoft‘s Xbox 360 is still the world’s console market leader due to good sales and the fact that it’s been around a year or so longer than its rivals. The Wii came out in late 2006 to become the hottest-selling game machine in a span of almost three months. The PS3 debuted in PAL territories on March 23 and sold a record-shattering 165,000 units in its first week but was overtaken by the Wii…if this leak proves true.
