Rumorlicious: PlayStation 3 shipment reduction at Best Buy?

Poor souls. That is the question currently being asked over at Neowin. While still unconfirmed, it still deserves a file in our repository of rumors, so let’s see what this baby has in store for us.

There’s always been speculation of the PS3’s launch day being a less than stellar affair. A Best Buy employee who wishes to remain anonymous tipped Neowin off to a seemingly unintentional leak by Best Buy management. If the report is to be believed, Best Buy may be getting approximately half the original number of units promised by Sony.

Furthermore, the management is hoping Wii, 360, PSP, and PS2 hardware and software sales will make up for the problems a shipment reduction will bring.

That being said, the National Guard is preparing choppers to ferry beleaguered videogame store employees on launch day… perhaps not.

Obviously, this has no factual basis, but it gives that feeling of unease that is always so annoying. Sony plans on getting 1.2 million PS3s out by the end of the year, but any verification of this rumors cuts that down to 600,000. Good news for the impatient ones who picked up a pre-order (or three), bad news for the impatient ones who didn’t get a pre-order, and marginally unsettling news for the three guys waiting outside the Best Buy in Burbank for PS3s.

Could someone get those guys a Quiznos and a soda or something?
