Saints Row 2 new multiplayer mode not like GTA IV’s

Saints Row 2 - Image 1THQ and Volition are cooking up something new for Saints Row 2‘s (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) Multiplayer Mode. They want you to have fun, and they want you to have fun holistically. They’re implementing a new “all-in” mode, which you can find out about after the jump.

ma' hommies - Image 1Multiplayer is fun, no question about that. But how do you keep the attention and interest of a general audience that is known to likely log out and look for other modes to play with?

It seems like having too many options in multiplayer modes are diluting what could have been a an otherwise intense experience for gamers, and this is what the devs of Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) are trying to answer.

THQ and Volition would like to get rid of the separate game modes and instead just roll them all into one to create that humongous ball of multiplayer fun. It’s what they fondly call the “Strong Arm” game type, and it answers directly the problem of the Multiplayer mode in GTA IV.

How does this work? Well it’s been demoed in San Francisco just last week and MTV Multiplayer vouches for its feasibility. In the Strong Arm game, the objective changes, thereby you don’t get the feeling of being immersed for too long in one particular mode. Another good thing is that you won’t have to feel totally inept at playing a game type that is not particularly your strongest suit.

This flexibility sure sounds like it takes into account a greater deal of fun. Imagine, you can be driving around with your hommies on a mission, and then later on you’re out to complete a cash grab.

So will this new game gimmick work for Saints Row 2? As of this writing, we can’t tell just yet. It’s sounding pretty awesome, though. But don’t worry, we’ll find out soon enough. Saints Row 2 comes out two weeks from now, October 14.
