Sakurai Facing Hurdles with Online Smash
The wonderful Smash Translator, SamuraiPanda, is back and he has told us what Masahiro Sakurai has updated. It seems that he is facing hurdles with the online service for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. “‘The winner is great [Also read as celebrated, famous, etc.]’ kind of system is not planned to be added.” From what I can understand, that would mean no elaborate ranking system will be used (Metroid Prime Hunters). However, I’m okay with the Mario Kart DS-style wins/loss system as long as the actual game gives us options – sort of how I outlined before. The hurdles Sakurai is facing aren’t known. Is it Nintendo‘s policy of keeping children away from talking to strangers? Is it the lag that will mess up the timing during matches? We’ll likely find out more as the game progresses.
In another reply, Sakurai re-iterated that the Wii does hold four slots for GameCube controllers. This further fuels speculation that the Wii version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl will use the GCN controller and not the Classic Shell.
