Samsung is rumored to be competing with Sony for the future of the ipod camera market.

Last updated 10 minutes agoIt has been said that the iPhone 16 Pro ultra wide camera will be upgraded to 48 megapixels. However, a new rumor suggests that Samsung, not Sony, will supply these image sensors in two models later, the iPhone 18 Pro. It’s already been said, and has been repeated by others: 48 megapixel sensors will be coming to the iPhone 16 Pro ultra-wide camera. Apple was rumored to be looking at Samsung for this camera. Uncharacteristically, that rumor was flat-out denied by Samsung. Samsung may have denied it because of the timing. In a report published directly on X, Kuo claimed that Samsung will be entering the iPhone camera market in two years for the iPhone 18 Pro. The post claims that Samsung has created a dedicated team for Apple’s needs. This is likely structured similar to the screen business unit of the company that provides OLED screens for the iPhone. If this is true, Apple will have two 48-megapixel rear cameras. The telephoto lens would then become the last camera with a 12-megapixel camera. If Samsung’s CIS gets approved, Sony will lose its exclusive status as supplier of image sensors for the iPhone. Sony is also said to have lost its exclusive status of screen provider for the Apple Vision Pro because it refused to increase production. The iPhone 16 Pro will also reportedly feature an upgrade of the iPhone 15 Pro Max Tetraprism Lens, allowing for a 5x zoom.
